How close to this fox were you when you got these shots? These don't look like telephoto images.
Very good images. I can see the Avalon Ballroom in the distance.

About 5-7 feet for the first shot and 2-3 feet for the second. It took a while, following him around for about 30 minutes, to get a shot with the Casino and Avalon Bay in the background.

I guess he just got used to me, but he wasn't all that scared in the fist place. I guess they have no preditors there and nobody is shooting at them with guns, so maybe they are not conditioned to be too fearful, at least not this one.

Most likely somewhat habituated to human interaction in these surroundings. It's a little rare in most places I shoot although the desert bighorn in Canyonlands are that way to a certain extent. No reason to fear humans, although they keep their distance. Probably been fed m&m's or something.

We certainly didn't feed him and he didn't seem to be expecting that from us or acting like he wanted us to. He simply didn't mind my son and I's presence. I certainly was surprised. Its unlikely he got used to being fed by others since I've hiked on Catalina Island on several different days per year for 25 years and this is the first time I saw one, indicating its a rare sighting.

What a really fine fellow he is, especially in the no 1 pose! It's so worthwhile to get close to the wildlife and you obviously showed a lot of patience in getting his trust. Well done, indeed..
