I had a profound encounter with a butterfly today. I had just put my camera back into my bicycle bag and was about to continue my ride when a golden butterfly landed on my finger. I slowly reached into my bag, retrieved my camera with my other hand and managed to turn it on without disturbing the insect. I was able to get over a minute of video as well as a number of stills. At one point it flew away and within a few seconds landed again on my finger. My scientific self wonders if it was getting salt from my sweaty hands while my spiritual side chooses to believe in a more profound animal/human interaction. In any event it left me with an elated spirit of joy from an interaction with a creature completely free to leave whenever it chose to.
