Buckhorn Overlook, Hells Canyon

Buckhorn Overlook is a fairly remote campground/overlook in the NE corner of Oregon. There is a network of forest service roads that still seems difficult for me to keep up with as I venture out there. The overlook is over 5000 feet overlooking the breaks of Hells Canyon. The most dominant canyon is the Imnaha River. Hells Canyon is a couple ridges further to the East. I spent Memorial day weekend here and (stupidly!) hiked the Eureka Wagon Road trail down to the Snake River and back. Needless to say, I've learned my lesson about keeping day hikes to a minimum length and elevation gain/loss!

Dawn over the Canyon. The Seven Devils mountain range (Idaho) is in the upper left corner and the Wallowa Mountains are in the upper right.

First Light at Buckhorn.

The Seven Devils. The haze and distance muted the sunset colors. I opted for a B&W conversion.

Chesnimnus Creek. This creek is along a portion of the forest service road that winds through the hills towards Buckhorn.

What a cool place to hang out at on a holiday weekend Aaron!

I really like how you worked the flowers in both #1 and 2, with #2 being my favorite of those. I think your choice of B&W is perfect for #3. It does cut through the haze and really lets the eye work through the geology there. That's a cool creek in #4. Is that a hiking path along the bottom, or a cow path?

Neat shots - I like the view from up there and the wildflowers in the second image with the early light is beautiful. I love the view of the Seven Devils.

I spent a few nights in Joseph a few years back in my RV and drove up to Imnaha but the roads leading towards Hells Canyon from there were far beyond anything that would have been sane for me to venture up.

The first light image is gorgeous!

The road from Imnaha to Dug Bar is also a great adventure, with a nice campsite at the end.

Jim, that is a cow path in the last picture. The old fence crossing the creek was a bonus.
