Thanks guys. I managed to assign area AF to 1 button and spot focus to another. That’s made a huge difference I think

What a great photo!!!

How interesting with assigning different focusing to different buttons. My problem with back button focus is a rarely capture birds, but I had a chance with Bald Eagles so I tested it out. But then later in the week I went to do normal photography and had totally forgotten I had done that and the camera was acting all weird. It took me about 30 minutes before I remembered I had set up the back button focus, and then it took me another 30 minutes to figure how to undo it. Initially I had a friend who had gone with me who was a big birder, so it took them about 5 seconds to change up the 3 or 4 various menu settings to turn on back focus with the 3D focus too.

I know there are ways to overcome that, but currently back focus and I are not on the best of terms... ;)

😂😂 I can imagine. My lens has image stabilisation that only works if I half press the shutter. So I’ll back button area focus initially and then spot focus on the subject. I then have to hold with the focus or shutter button so makes sense to half press the shutter. To do that I needed to remove the focus function otherwise I keep refocusing. Initially I thought I had a faulty version but apparently it’s how the sigma 150-600 functions.

I’m used to it now and have managed to get much tighter focus as a result.
