Blue Horsehead Nebula

This is the Blue Horsehead Nebula IC 4592. This is a reflection nebula close to the top left bright star in Scopius, Beta Scorpius. I tried to image this object in Florida but it is a summer object and we very seldon had a clear nights from June until October so I did not get enough exposures. I will try this object this summer in Oregon where we get more clear nights. It is lower in the sky but I will try and post some results. The data I processed for this shot was from an obsevatory in Austrailia from Telescope Live, using the same telescope I have.

Wow - I don't think I have seen a rendering of this subject in quite such detail before. Nice processing work.

Awesome work Chuck! The Blue Horsehead is one that I keep forgetting that I want to image. It's really cool looking, and this rendition you have is really cool. I do hope you are able to image it again this summer. I am heading up into the mountains in Colorado for the next few days and I hope to get my gear setup for imaging.

Thanks Jim, I forgot I did this at a Bortle 2 site in New mexico which I used my 70-200 Canon lens with an old Canon 1000d that was modified. I remember having all kinds of guiding problems at the time using my friend mount. Here is the shot I took in 2019. It came out OK for just about 1.5 hours. It is really faint and hard to process.

Chuck,

This is such a fantastic object. I love the first posted image, but also your data is excellent too. In have tried this object a couple of times and have yet to get anything presentable at all. It is definitely a tricky object, although I have seen some postings with small datasets that are very good, so not sure why it still eludes me.

I was at a dark site at the end of April and I should have tried it again but I was fixed on galaxies.

Hey Chuck,

I missed your added photo from 2019. That is really pretty cool. Bortle 2 is sure nice.

I need to look and see if it is still up. I hope to be getting out into some dark skies this coming new moon. It would be great to see just how much I might be able to see it. Even if it doesn't end up that great, I would like to try. :)

Jim, yes it is still up and in a good position to image. i wish I could have used a astro camera instead of the old canon camera.
