Amgen Tour of California

The Amgen Tour of Calif. is an annual bike race held in May and is now in its 12th year. Many of the professional riders and teams are the same ones that compete in the Tour de Frances in July, this is a training race for many of them. There are 7 stages (days) each starting in a different city from Sacramento to San Diego. Standing on the side of the road and having the peloton scream by at 35 plus mph is quite a rush, it is one of the few professional sport were you could literally reach out an touch them.
I try and tell story with my photo's, I know this is not the critique thread but I am all ways looking for suggestion, help etc.
Thanks

Nice sports shots, but are Mario and Luigi doing running with the bikes? :D

Are the cheering on an Italian team?

A couple of guys from Germany that had been drinking a little.....a lot. Acting up by the spectators is all part of bike racing.
Thanks

Hey Robert,

That looks like a fun event!

#2 is my favorite, that had to have been hard to pan and keep it as sharp as it is. And I like #4 where they are all strung out.

Nice photo set - looks like something I would expect to see in Velonews. Been a few years since this particular race took place with Radio Shack still a sponsor. 2011?

I am gathering that was is not your first effort to photograph a stage race. Nice gallery of shots. FWIW I did watch that race on TV (this particular race and am a regular follower of cycling and frequent cycling web sites that cover World Tour level racing. Your images are as good as I any I am seeing in the cycling media.

Thanks Alan, the pictures are from different years, I've been catching 3 or 4 of the stages on and off for the last 6 years, it just seems to get bigger and better every year. Lucky to live near L.A. were they usually end the race.
Thanks again

I got that on a stage that they were doing a "criterium" a circuit course of 4 laps as apposed to point A to point B. There were a 125 riders
so I had 500 chances to get a couple of good ones. ; - )
