A wide view of the Maze

The Maze is a lot more awesome in person than I have been able to convey in photos. Its so busy that compositions are difficult, but the shapes and textures and colors are always tempting to be included. This is a three image stitch with the camera vertical.

When the full rising sun hits this the colors are awesome, but we had no luck for that this trip.

It is a place that's almost too cool with too many possible compositions if you will. I can see where trying to identity and single out an area would be hard.

With that said, I would love to see the area with the buttes in the background on the left half with those carved out canyons below it. If you have posted that area like that link that thread, because that looks super interesting.

The trail that goes down into the Maze starts near the Chocolate Drops. I like this shot of them with the slight glow to the clouds just behind.

Have you ever done that trail? We wanted to go back here on our next trip, but the permits were full. The next trip is probably my last Maze excursion, we are going to move over to the Needles district next. If you can make Elephant Hill you can get within a mile of Cheshler Park.

We will be at the Doll House for two nights next trip and can do some hiking there.

I went down into the Maze as part of an archaeological survey team in 1975 to record some rock art sites. I posted a thread with images of some of the rock art a few years back. The film I was shooting that summer (Agfachrome 64) didn't age well and has some major color shift issues. Its been nice seeing your images from the viewpoints with the correct colors 😁

Nice Ben. As a point of reference for everyone, on next year's trip, we will camp one night at Standing Rock, the tall skinny formation center left in the first image and get the view from the other side of the Maze. A drone shot of this area would be awesome if it were legal to fly them in a NP. 😭

It's an awesome place to be. I remember getting a flat (in my BF's Subaru -- he was driving) on a steep section of the Flint Trail, close to Lands End. He had me get out of the vehicle so that he could block the tires & jack up the Subie to change the flat....just in case. Spent the night where there were no animal sounds, which made it kind of eerie. Instead of continuing on into the Maze without a spare, we drove back to pavement. We figured the rangers were laughing about sending some Coloradans on the Flint Trail with just a Subaru.

The first time we went in the Flint trail was not bad, the last time we went in, it was so bad we drove out the southern route (Hite). The road got pretty badly washed out from this summers monsoon.
