A Cackling Goose

Yesterday I was out looking for some late fall/early winter birds. I went by a small pond that was partially frozen and saw about 70 Canada Geese sitting in the water and standing on the ice.
When I processed the pictures I noticed one Cackling goose among all the Canada geese. The Cackling geese are usually only seen around here during migration. Not sure if this one is staying around for a bit or heading down south.

Notice shorter bill and smaller body on the goose in the middle foreground.

How interesting Trent! I had never even heard of them before, and I looked, I couldn't pick it out of your #1 image.

Great job!

I have been hanging out in the desert, and here you have ice forming already?

Hi Jim.. Yes we do have freezing temps at night and for the next few days some lovely warm days. Next week we move to real winter with -20C (-4F). I'm driving to Winnipeg on Tuesday to visit family so will have to take winter clothes for sure.
