    Pond in the Sky

Known as Sky Pond in RMNP! This is one of my favorite places to snowshoe to in the winter months. CC welcome

    Winter Simplicity

Often, as landscape photographers, we chase light and look for the explosion of color, the perfect sunrise or sunset. Winter, however, provides the very antithesis of this in almost monochrome - form, textures and shapes. These often show up where we are least likely to look for. The image below...

    Castle Mountain Winter

This was taken in January in Banff, at about the same time/location as this one along the Bow River http://www.focalworld.com/index.php?threads/bow-river-snow-bumps.1734/. The beautiful sunrise to the east provided some nice warm light on the mountain to contrast the cold below it. Any thoughts...

    Snow White

I love fresh snow on trees. Also one of may favorites is a snowy day. Love winter in B&W.

    Fall or Winter?

Or Both? There was a snow storm that hit during fall colors that made for some cool conditions in the Eastern Sierra a few years ago. This is from Convict Lake in the Eastern Sierra, not shot from the common area at the outlet but from along the trail that goes around the lake. All comments...

    Third Vermilion Winter Sunrise

I took this in January near the end of a trip to Banff. The weather had warmed up to a nice -20°F. When I arrived at this spot, I found a tour group from Japan along the shoreline. The tour leader was setting up their cameras which were all clicking away on timers. I moved off to the right and...

    The Real Dallas Divide

In winter white at sunrise, this is from the real Dallas Divide. The parking area and view spot that 99% of all people stop at and shoot from, really isn't the Dallas Divide. It's close, but the real Dallas Divide is just a bit further up the road. Another winter scene with the spiraling type...

Winter Sunrise in the San Juan Mountains

This view is not far from the Dallas Divide where most people shoot. And while I do like the Dallas Divide location myself, I like to change it up a bit once in a while. This is one of those nice quiet mornings where there is no one else around. It will be in sharp contrast to just 2 weeks from...

    Elk in Canmore

I took my family to Canmore/Banff this last January (I swear they wanted to go!) and even though it was winter I was hoping they'd get to see some wildlife. We hadn't had much luck until this morning. My daughter and I took a drive into town to get some pastries from the bakery and when we got...

    Abbey Road

While shooting the low, rising mist at the cypress swamp one morning, a few years back, a gaggle of Canadian Geese landed and swam around a while. I was fortunate that I was already set up with the long lens looking down this avenue in the trees so I was ready to go! My shooting partner was in...

    Cypress Swamp, choices

Another scene from the cypress swamp on that foggy winter's morning. Giving you a choice of color or b&w. Just curious. :)

    Turret Arch

The day after Craig Carr led me up to Dead Horse Point for that magnificent view at sunrise, I again went early up into Arches NP. This was one of the shots I caught there. Very shortly after dawn, still mostly overcast, with the fresh snow from a few days prior.

    Winter at Mesa Arch

I made a one night trip to Moab at the end of 2015 to maintain my frequent flyer status for the year (yeah, that was my excuse) and managed to catch some fresh snow at Mesa Arch for sunrise. I've posted a version of this elsewhere before, but I managed to recover some extra space on the right...

Man at work, with a view....

On my return home from visiting Mom, in Dec '15, I managed to finally make it to Moab, UT. Craig Carr was kind enough to meet and take me to a couple famous places. It's an awesome area, and I only made a dent, so a return is definitely planned, possibly this winter. While at Dead Horse Point...

    Winter at Dallas Divide

The San Juan mountain range is an area in Colorado that I have really come to love. It's great because I have been able to get some photography work there also with several clients. But it's my love for that area that has been driving me (and my jeep) to go and spend time there 4 times a year...

Lawrence of Arabia....well, Jim of White Sands

Dec '13, I met up with Jim Fox at White Sands NM on my return from the west coast. He had be off wandering on his own, as we all do there, and I caught him working his way back toward me over the dunes. Bright morning light, but I love the sense of scale this image conveys.
