Taos, New Mexico. What an amazing little town within a town. You have what is a cool and artsy kind of town named Taos, and in the heart of it is a smaller Indian town called Taos that basically feels like it's a village that time forgot. If you have never been there you need to go.
I have been...
Back in the Bisti Badlands area, as I was hiking in for sunrise I noticed this one last star in the sky. I couldn't stop for long as I didn't have much time before sunrise, but I did take about a dozen shots from a few different compositions.
All comments are welcome,
Jim
Just a cloud made all the difference.
In an area south of the Bisti Badlands in New Mexico, after spending a few hours shooting the sunrise and working the early light on a pretty cloudless morning http://www.focalworld.com/index.php?threads/sunrise-splendor.1260/ I decided that I would test...
This is from south of Bisti Badlands in New Mexico last year, the back story for this image is described in this previous thread. http://www.focalworld.com/index.php?threads/morning-glory.599/
It was an exhilarating sunrise, and actually one in which I am now glad I was a bit late getting to...
A few miles south of Bisti in New Mexico is another really cool area of even stranger rock formations. This was taken recently on my way back from fall colors in Colorado. There wasn't any real clouds for sunrise, but there was some moisture in the air, and some really neat Crepuscular Rays that...
This isn't Bisti Badlands in New Mexico, but it's not far from it. I had been up late shooting stars the night before and so when I woke before dawn and looked outside it was pretty cloudy and easy to talk myself into staying wrapped up in my sleeping bag. But the "What ifs" started nagging at...
One of the amazing things about White Sands is that the white sand reflects the color in the sky that when processing the photos you actually have to process the sand separately if you want to keep that white feel. Otherwise the white sand can become blue, yellow, orange, purple, etc based on...
Hey everyone, thanks Jim!
A recent image from White Sands here in NM.
Had a great couple of days in the hit monsoon weather. This storm just before sunset really cranked out the electrons. Did a blend of three exposures on this to capture the 4 bolts. All taken within 5 minutes on location.
Enjoy!
Again from Dec '08, my first visit to White Sands, with Jim Fox and Allen Maestas.
Three compositions on the same dune, mid-morning light, looking southerly, so the high contrast made black and white a natural choice, I thought.
Hope you enjoy. :)
A little Shiprock love here. It's simply amazing for how cool this rock is at just how easy it is to get there. Most often you are shooting either next to your vehicle or within 100 yards of it. I took this one morning at sunrise when I wasn't liking the conditions out at Bisti, so I woke up...
Dec '13, I met up with Jim Fox at White Sands NM on my return from the west coast.
He had be off wandering on his own, as we all do there, and I caught him working his way back toward me over the dunes. Bright morning light, but I love the sense of scale this image conveys.
