Venice Mugging
Venice, Italy (02-18-2020)
In this Venice alleyway the pirate got the drop on these beautiful swans.
The pirate is Brigitte Heliere. Her costume is beautifully detailed and creative. She has all of the accoutrements of a pirate - a pistol, a viewing telescope and a...
Venice Passageway
Venice, Italy (02-21-2020)
There are so many wonderful, magical things about Venice. Simple scenes like this one are abundant.
I must return.
Venice During Carnivale (02-16-2020)
Visiting Venice is like going through a time portal. I did feel like I stepped back in time. Then you add the magic of Carnivale with models, wearing old world Venetian costumes, walking around posing and it is hard to believe what you are experiencing...
Venice Foggy View
This was our first day in Venice, Italy. We were walking back to our hotel from dinner when we came across this view. I could not get my camera set up fast enough for fear of losing some of the fog. I knew that Venice was going to be full of photographic opportunities, but...
Milan, Italy
This is a seven image panorama of a night time street scene in the Navigli neighborhood of Milan.
Thanks to Ugo Cei for the recommendation of what neighborhood and hotel to stay while we were in Milan!!
My wife, adult daughter and I recently spent four weeks in Italy. We visited the cities of Milan, Venice, Florence and Rome. We started in the north, Milan, and worked our way south. We traveled by train between cities. The virus crisis did start to unfold while we were there. In Milan we...
Foggy Venice
We are currently on a three and a half week vacation in Italy. This image is from our first night in Venice. Venice is amazing!

Tuscany often evokes images of soft landscapes and serene hills, but there is drama to be found there as well. To express the drama of this scene, I found 60 seconds of exposure and black & white to be the way to go. Hasselblad X1D, Hasselblad XCD 45mm and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest Ultra Grad ND...
Manarola, in the Cinque Terre, is a truly spectacular village - especially at sunrise, when the town is asleep and its street are completely empty of people. Can't wait to be back in March! :) 6 seconds of peace with my Hasselblad X1D, Hasselblad 21mm and my Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra...
Welcome to my Dolomites Photography Workshop! The Dolomites are home to some of the most powerful and inspiring mountain landscapes on the planet and exploring them truly feels like embarking on an amazing journey to the top of Europe. I started exploring and photographing the Dolomites in depth...
Welcome to our Cinque Terre & Tuscany Photography Workshop! Cinque Terre & Tuscany’s spectacular landscapes, ranging from picturesque villages and rough seascapes to serene rolling hills and medieval towns, are iconic and quintessentially Italian. I have been exploring Cinque Terre and Tuscany...
While I love great vistas and spectacular sunsets / sunrises like the next man, I also love to explore the simplicity of shapes & pastel colours when the occasion arises such as here, on the Tuscan hills. 91 seconds of exposure with my Hasselblad X1D, Hasselblad XCD 90mm and Formatt Hitech...
Sunset on the Tuscan hills of Val d'Orcia. This one evening, at sunset, I witnessed and photographed some truly beautiful light painting the farmhouse and trees in front of me with smooth, warm pastel tones. Just incredible!
A 13 seconds exposure with my Hasselblad X1D, Hasselblad XCD 90mm and...
The iconic sunrise view from above Vernazza, in Cinque Terre, is definitely spectacular. However, I never really liked the classic view with the tower touching the mountain across, which pretty much kills the composition for me. So, I found my own spot, from where the tower is detached from the...
One of the few perks of going to Venice in the middle of summer is that very few people are up for sunrise at 5 am, and you get San Marco square all for yourself :) A couple of seconds exposure with my Demo Hasselblad X1D II, Hasselblad XCD 21mm and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest Ultra filters...
Well following my previous photo, and after taking care of some of you advice, here's another photo from the very same place (the amazing Val Gardena by the way). I'm very pleased with it but can't wait to here your thoughts.
Strong nature and human ingenuity characterise the lagoons of the river Po's Delta in Italy. Here is a "Casone", a typical construction in Comacchio's lagoons to keep an eye on pirate fishermen. A 3-seconds exposure taken almost three years ago at sunset with Leica S (007), Leica 30-90mm...
