Tested the Sony 400-800mm on this dragonfly today. I was about 3 yards away. It's surprising how narrow the depth of field at f/8, but then again it is 800mm.

One of the first photos with my new Sony A7RIVa and Tamron 28-75, taken in our back yard last night. Definitely liking the low noise compared to the Canon 6D!
This is a stack of 2 photos, each 13 seconds long at 2000 ISO. Quite pleased with the result. The fireflies are close to peaking over here!
Hi all,
It's an exciting moment - I'm about to upgrade from the Canon 6D Mark II which has been my primary camera for 7 years.
I had my sights set on the R5 until I looked at Sony's comparable cameras. The Sony A7R IVA is really appealing in terms of the quality for the price so that's likely...
While the title might suggest this belongs in the Astrophotography forum, seeing the photo should clarify the genre :) This was taken around 4:30am on Monday from our house in Vermont looking east as the dawn colors graced the sky. The moon and Venus were quite close to each other. I missed the...
Hey everyone! I wanted to share this photo from 2019 I recently reprocessed. For Mother's Day I thought I would get a jigsaw puzzle for my mom made with one of my photos. She's been on a puzzle kick lately. I've always had this photo in the back of my mind because it's so interesting to look at...
This is from last summer when the hummingbirds were visiting our geraniums. I only got a couple of opportunities shooting these and am looking forward to getting more this coming season.
I took a photo of this farm from much the same angle last fall when there was a lot more color in the scene. It has a nice view of the Adirondacks. Yesterday I went over again to check out the geese action over Lake Champlain. Hundreds of migrating birds are arriving every day. Here are a few...
While out walking with my telephoto this week, a red-tailed hawk came flying over. I got a few shots and continued following him looking through the viewfinder...while I was tracking him, another hawk showed up out of nowhere and they had a very brief but close encounter. It wasn't until I...
I've had quite a bit of fun this winter taking pictures of birds coming to our feeder. I originally thought this was a yellow finch but after looking at more images I believe it's an American Goldfinch. Both males and females wear these relatively drab colors in winter, but come spring the male...
Here's a photo I took last summer here in northwestern Vermont that I never processed, thinking it was uninteresting, but I recently reworked it in B&W. The focus is obviously on those neat clouds over the Green Mountains, looking east as the sun set behind me. Somewhat of a plain scene but I...
I recently revisited (and reprocessed) photos from this hike we did in the Alps back in July 2018. Winter is starting to feel long here on the east coast so I'm reminiscing about green grass and summer days. I enjoyed all my hikes in that area where we lived but the Chablais region on the...
From August 4, 2021, coming home from work (western VT).
The light wasn't particularly great but I was able to salvage this one at an instant where the sun almost broke through the haze and clouds.
Nice to go back and look at summer photos in January :)
I took these yesterday with my 300mm. The first photo is a different bird than the last 3, but same species I believe. We have a lot of them around, they seem to enjoy hunting in the big open fields. This was my first time getting this close though.
The sunrises at our house are pretty nice. Here are a few pictures from last Friday. The first one is of our deck getting bathed in light and the others are of the field across the road as the sun came up and burned off the mist. The currents in the fog made it look like a fluid, which...
I recently posted another photo of this lone wood duck from farther away, but after a closer look this might be the better shot. He made a nice subject enveloped in the morning fog on Otter Creek.
The farm next to us at sunset, looking west with the Adirondacks in the background. I really like the play of colors in this one. I didn't have to do much in processing except rescue some detail in the sky and lighten the foreground.
Here's a lone wood duck on Otter Creek, one of the only birds I saw this morning besides a kingfisher flying past. I ended up using LR's Dehaze to add a little more definition to things, since everything was engulfed in pretty thick fog. I like the simplicity of this scene.
There is an issue with Uploading Photos (attachjments). I am not sure what the problem is, and I am looking into it. You can still try to Create your Threads and Upload your Photos, but it is hanging up during the Upload.
