    Chasing Clouds

Southern Arizona, Tohono O'odham Nation. Nice puffy clouds being pushed around by wind made me whip out the ND filters. Thirteen stops on this image.

    Waterfall Wednesday 4/22/2026

A telephoto view of Panther Creek Falls in Washington State. A very short hike leads to the upper viewing platform where this was shot.

    A Two Volcano Sunrise

I like the Mt St Helens side better. That would look fine at a 1:1 crop!

    Colors of Weston Beach

Thanks Jameel. I hurt my neck looking down so much while there. Thanks Alan. This place is very near the top of my list for colors in rocks! Thanks John. The range of colors in those rocks really is amazing.

    Desperately clinging to the past

Thanks John. I have found the time for longer exposure photography since I retired 3 years ago. Before then, it seemed a chore, now it seems more like a challenge I'm enjoying.

Light at both ends of the day

I like the atmospherics better at sunrise, and the sunset color is sublime!

    Colors of Weston Beach

Edward Weston is well known as a master of Black and White photography. He used B+W exclusively for all his work, except for a short period when Kodak gifted him a huge supply of Kodachrome film. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but Weston returned to B+W after he shot the last of the...

John Day Fossil Beds National Monument

The 665 is over the sensor, no lens filter. A red-blue channel swap gets the blue sky, foliage leans towards yellow by default but needs a bit of tweaking to get to a more pleasing result.

John Day Fossil Beds National Monument

Thanks Alan. I always bring my IR on road trips. It helps when it can use the same lenses as my regular camera!

    Layers and Layers

Thanks Jim. It is the kind of a place where you could just do a drive by at the right time of day and get a lot of good images in a short time, as the parking area has a great eye level view of the layers which get higher as they progress to the west.

    Layers and Layers

Thanks Jameel. With a telephoto lens there was a new composition everywhere you looked. Thanks Alan. I hung around till after sunset for some sky light photos. Less contrasty, but still beautiful.

    Layers and Layers

This is from the Little Painted Desert County Park near Winslow, Arizona. A great place to be when the sun is low in the sky.

    Thursday’s Task

I am not a wildlife shooter at all, but if an animal wanders into my field of view I will grab an image or two because I feel obligated to. Having said that, these images may not qualify because they no longer qualify as wild? This guy walked down into position and posed for me, held the pose...

    Extraterrestrial Light

I am always concerned about getting probed by aliens, especially when I'm out in remote areas! But if they just wanna talk then I'm down for a meeting and exchange of ideas. 😁👽 The light was great for about 10 minutes, it was right at sunrise with broken clouds near the horizon, making the...

    Extraterrestrial Light

Sunrise hitting an unnamed peak next to the Extraterrestrial Highway in Nevada. Good day for clouds.

Here's an example from Lower Wahkeena Falls in the Columbia River Gorge. Taken in May, when it was going full steam!

    Desperately clinging to the past

Thanks Alan, one day I'll find a whole pier to shoot, maybe. Thanks Jim, I think pier pilings are the number one subject for long exposures on the coast. Thanks Jameel, I also tried a short shutter speed, but the water was distracting.
