    White Buffalo/Bison

At a bison ranch a few hours' drive from home. There was a road along the southern border of the ranch that I initially thought was a private ranch road, but after I turned around & looked again, I think it may be a public road. Nevertheless, it was not one I wanted to drive down in the RAV4...

    Ice Lakes Trashed

From the Denver Post. Apparently people have been leaving human waste & trash in this fragile environment. As a result, permits are being considered. This is why we can't have nice things........

    The Maple Tree

I'm finally getting around to posting these -- those social gatherings with only your own household regulations are good for that sort of thing. I made a trip up to Portland, OR while I was visiting friends in Bend, 3 1/2 hours away. The Gardens had a timed entry, then if you wanted to shoot...

    Frozen Delight

Another shot of one of the many cascades behind Tumalo Falls outside of Bend, OR. I had hiked up here the previous day with dog, but sans camera gear, so even though it had warmed up, I was pretty sure that it hadn't warmed up all the much, especially since the stream is in a fairly narrow...

    Tumalo Twist

Hiking with my dog outside of Bend, OR, the day after it finally warmed up above freezing. This is a beautiful trail with many cascades/waterfalls. Mountain bikes are allowed uphill only. This is some detail in the creek.

The Aftermath of a 3 Dog Night

'Twas a 3 dog night, but I only had one. At least I had an extra sleeping bag I could pull over myself, but I still had to keep moving my feet to keep them warm. At a brisk 13 degrees, I didn't even want to be outside my FJ long enough to heat up a beverage, let alone cook breakfast before...

    Gros Ventre 3 Ways

Being around the Tetons with my dog, I was looking for areas not in the park. I found this little piece of the Gros Ventre not far from the Kelly warm springs. It was so serene, that it quickly became a favorite place. A week or so earlier & I'm sure it would have been spectacular with autumn...

    It's That Barn Again

Clouds were heavy to the east, so blocked any light from sunrise, but the clouds were dramatic enough over the mountains that I shot this vertical pano. Winds were gusting to 60mph, so keeping things steady as I was standing on my roof rack was kind of a challenge.

    Le Trois Tetons

Blue hour yesterday at Oxbow. I got a kick out of the diving ducks, and, sure enough, they lined up will with Moran.

    Beaver Ponds in the Abyss

The Abyss trail has one end on the south side of Guanella Pass, the other on Mt Evans. This year, because of COVID, Mt Evans has been closed except to foot & bicycle traffic. This was intended as a recon trip to check out the fall colors since it snowed significantly a few weeks ago. I went...

    Gentians

I was going to call this one something like "Ladies & Gentians" but that made it sound like I had Lady Slippers in the collection, which I don't. From my hike the other day on the Abyss Trail on the south side of Guanella Pass. The meadow where I have seen them before was completely toast, so I...

    Love in Vein

Love seems to be a theme these days, so........ I went for a hike, looking for gentians, but distracted by the aspen leaves that were in the process of turning. The ones that still had green veins particularly caught my attention, but it was darned hard to find one that didn't have brown spots...

Another Sunflowers in the Dunes Shot + 2nd Edit

Getting around to more of this collection. This was around sunrise: less wind, shorter (45mm) lens.

    Sunflower Dunes

This shot had a lot of contrast, so I thought I'd see how a B&W would work. Kind of a post-apocalyptic look, I think, though not as much as Alisa's smoky sunflower. C&C always welcome.

    Sunny Colorado

I'd gone down to the Sand Dunes one other time to catch the sunflowers in bloom. I thought they were pretty good. This year, the number of them far outdid that year. The smoke from the fires filtered the sun a bit, but wasn't nearly as bad as in the Denver Metro area (it didn't hurt my lungs...

    Wolfs Head and Pingora

As I was hanging my print versions of this in color & B&W, I started thinking that I liked the bB&W better. C&C welcome

    Stories From (a) Jackass

Jackass Pass in the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming, I mean. Part 1: I had gone up there 2 weeks earlier, hoping to catch the comet Neowise over the Cirque of the Towers as it would be to the WNW, which was a perfect orientation from there. Actually, to backtrack a little, my plans weren't...

    Arctic Gentian

On an evening walk, I saw a community of arctic gentians just below Sloan Lake (just a hair below 13,000') on the hike to Handies Peak in American Basin. I didn't have my macro lens with me, so I went back early the next morning to catch them before the sun got high. These blooms were in front...
