Hi - my name is Alan and I suffer from AAADD (Acute Adult onset Attention Deficit Disorder). I have a habit of starting to go somewhere but get so distracted along the way I barely make it there because I experience yet another episode and have to stop so many times along the way :)
In this...
Welcome to another round of falling water. My falls for today are a drone's eye view of the scene at the top of Wahkeena Falls in the Columbia River Gorge. Not a view you can get from the grounds this is a 166mm telephoto view taken from 390' above the Benson Recreation area. From a visit in...
I was curious to compare what the area below Crown Point looked like prior to the construction of I-84 in the 1950's since it certainly looks like it all used to be a much larger wetland. After a bit of digging I stumbled across a postcard image that offers a good view to compare with a drone...
As I was looking through some drone images I captured in the Columbia River Gorge in late October this one caught my attention for its view of how close the Eagle Creek Fire of 2017 came to the area around Wahkeena Falls. The fire burned along the top of the Gorge cliffs and extended down the...
I don't know if there is an official name for the foam that can arise with heavy seas but some of the basalt ledges along the central Oregon Coast can produce some really thick blankets of the stuff. This example is from Cook's Chasm at Cape Perpetua. In this particular capture you can see the...
I probably stopped at every bridge I encountered in the coastal forests a few weeks back since the deciduous trees thrive along the banks of the river where there is often a break in the conifers. If you wanted to get somewhere in a hurry riding with me in my truck that day would not have been...
This pair of shots are a drone's view of the Suislaw National Forest near where Sweet Creek Road joins the North Fork of the Smith River Road. They show quite clearly why you don't get much of a view of the terrain from down on the road itself with the trees towering over the roadway. The road...
My waterfall image for today is a shot of the top portion of Upper Kentucky Falls from late October. Always amazing to get to a place like this and have it entirely to yourself. There was one family there when I got to the trailhead and they were just hiking out when I started down the trail to...
This is a drone's eye view looking south from over the Kentucky Creek trailhead near the headwaters of the North Fork Smith River. Driving up to this place I had no view of the surrounding terrain at all for well over 20 miles worth of single track forest service roads given the height of the...
I posted a shot yesterday from the lower area of the North Fork of the Smith River with some elk resting at the edge of a pasture area. This is a 2 shot panorama that is just to the left of that shot. I was originally thinking of stitching all three shots but I didn't like the distortions that...
When I am out shooting and driving I typically keep my camera and drone readily available to pull out whenever I see something worth shooting and can find a turnout. I was seeing a lot of nice fall colors when I was driving on a road that follows the North Fork of the Smith River and found a...
For the last 7 years running I have gone down to Florence on the Oregon coast and made a fall pilgrimage to Sweet Creek at the earliest light to shoot the waterfalls. I decided to pass on that early morning trek this year since I have thousands of images of the falls along that creek but I was...
A scene a couple hundred feet from where Sweet Creek joins the Siuslaw River from a couple of weeks ago. Single frame cropped to 16:9.
C&C always welcome.
Its Wednesday so time for another round of Waterfall Wednesday :)
My falls for today are the Lower Christine Falls in Mt. Rainier National Park from a visit in late September. The lower part of Christine Falls are under a bridge on the Longmire-Paradise road so you can't step back and shoot...
One of my favorite plants in our garden are the blueberries since we get gallons of berries to eat/freeze and in the fall the bushes put on an amazing color show. From a couple of days ago.
This was a hard shot to process since the original reds were too overwhelming to fit into the sRGB color...
For the first time in quite a while I got a chance to shoot a really nice colorful sunrise featuring Mt. Hood. Very little fog or haze and some just right clouds. Three frames shot at 70mm from an altitude of 98ft.
C&C always welcome.
I have driven from Eugene Oregon out to Florence more times than I can count but have never really had a good view of the lower stretches of the river between Mapleton and Florence. The Siuslaw River as you see it in this scene is at sea level with flatwater all the way out to the open waters of...
I posted an iPhone shot of the blowhole at Cooks Chasm a couple of weeks ago from a previous visit to Cape Perpetua and decided to get an updated version when I was down there a week ago. The swells were high from a storm that had cleared out that morning so the blowhole was quite active given...
Another shot of some of the crazy shapes I managed to capture in the frothing foam in Cook Chasm with high swells. Captured at 1/2000s shooting 30 frames per second.
C&C always welcome.
