They are fun to watch, and seem to have a varied diet, I have seen them catch both crayfish and fish. Also one time observed them feeding a mystery food to their very young. May have been some type of worm.
Thanks Doug, this is from a couple of years ago when I did a series of the nesting of the cormorants at pt. lobos, it was a fun experience going there almost every week during the nesting season.
Marcy, this is a very interesting post, we have them here in Birch Bay Washington, near my home, but I only see them come up with clams. Different look to see them with fish. Love these shots, Nice group of photo's.
Beautiful especially with all the splashes of color in the water. Looking at this and seeing your photo's of the Mandarin duck and others I have a hard time deciding which duck species is the most beautiful, they are all so distinctly stunning.
This Short-Eared Owl was not happy that a juvenile Bald Eagle had landed on a pole in his territory, making sounds and engaging his angry face he attempted to harass eagle into leaving. The routine did not work, lol
