Fall Color Reports - 2018

OK, Spent four more days in the eastern CA Bishop area after the Sunday FocalWorld meet up and shoot. Things were generally barely OK in most places. Up to the end of Rock Creek Road and back, and there were a few patches but nothing worth shooting. Convict lake never has a lot of color but I like looking across and hoping for nice clouds, which were there. South Fork of Bishop Creek Canyon seemed to be the most photogenic, but frankly, it didn't get me too excited because I've been there so darn many times photographing the same locations over again. I'm craving the scene in other states and New England, where there are various colors all over. I don't want to look at yellow now for a few weeks. Sorry for the lousy report but I am rather particular and need a change-up.
Maybe venture out to Colorado next fall? The Eastern Sierra can have awesome fall colors, but they are limited to specific places, so much so that Bishop has a Fall Color Map pin pointing all 10 or 12 locations. So I know after a while it can get old. That's why my shooting the Fall Colors in Colorado over the last 6 or 7 years has been really awesome for me. And what's great when it's a whole states worth of color, when I start to get a little bored with one area, there are 30 or 40 more area's to start exploring and shooting.

With that said, I would sure hanker for some East Coast colors myself. Maybe not next year, but perhaps the year after.

A couple more from the Oregon Coast range near Florence. I drove up OR 36 today and the colors along that road are very close to peak. This weekend will put them over the top.

Views along the Siuslaw River:

This is one is from the highway just above the trail leading to Lake Creek Falls:

Jim, you are out on the East Coast?

If you can, take an iPhone snap of the colors or lack of colors to add to your post too. :)

Upstate NY and the Adirondacks. It is a little past peak in the high Adirondacks, but some snow should be starting to show. In the woodsy areas, and along the streams, colors will last a little longer.

In the southern Adirondacks, the exposed areas are loosing their leaves to winds and rain, but the woods are still ripe for color. Reds are almost gone, the oranges and yellow are still hopping.

Nice shots Bart, that’s what I was hoping for over here in VT, but not finding.

This is the best spot we’ve found so far at Beartown SP in MA, my wife got this one on her phone. What you can see was about it! The top shot sows the view from Mt Greylock.

eastern US 2018 - where are autumn leaves ?

Have been in the North Carolina Blue Ridge for last 10 days - very late and the worst color I have ever seen here - I have a place up in the mountains and have shot here for a number of years. Have been both north and south on the Parkway and situation appears to be the same. I hear West Virginia is poor color too.

Are there any places, like Pennsylvania, Ohio or North Virginia where the prognosis is for good fall color in the coming week. I expect Smokey National Park to be way below par as well. Am driving from North Carolina, so please don't tell me Zion, UT etc....

Much Thanks

Jim, what are your Yosemite plans? At this point I'll either be shooting sunset there tomorrow or Sunday (I'll look at my various sunset predictors tomorrow to make the call). I'm targeting the half dome reflection near the day parking/housekeeping camp. Happy to meet up.
