Winged Wednesday 10/30/2019

I chose a robberly photo for this week’s “Winged Wednesday.” This is a Photo stack of 48 images combined using Zerene Stacker to make this extreme macro portrait. Extreme macro-photography has a very shallow depth of field. Stacking many photos adjusting the focus .5 mm (roughly 5 times the thickness of human hair) with each click overcomes the DOF problem and allows viewing of the astonishing details and colors of small insect.

Most of the wings weren’t included in this extreme macro. However, the halter (yellow drumstick) is easily visible under the wing. The halters are the balancing organ of a two-winged fly that take the place of the hind wings, vibrating during flight.

stunning light and colors. Photographs of birds in their habitat are so much more interesting than a close-up

Here is one of my eagle shots from the Couer d' Alene River near its entrance to Coeur d' Alene Lake.

Ha ha Alan... Going from one extreme to the other here. With Eric's shot we couldn't get any closer to the subject, but with yours you couldn't get any further away. Well, not really but the sentence flowed.

This was called the eastern towhee 4o years ago and is the species that made me a birder. Outstanding photo, Doug.
