Few waterfalls

Went on a quick visit to several easy to reach waterfalls while my wife was at the house waiting. I managed a few shots I thought were interesting. Here are some--Glen Falls (first two), Cullasaja Falls, and Dry Falls (where I went for an unusual perspective with an UWA lens).

All are nice - looks like a great place. The first is my favorite though. I like the silky water falling over the rocks and the framing by the plants. The whites look a little hot at the top, any chance of pulling out a touch more detail?

Nice set - I like the water textures in #s 1,2,3 and the framing of the comp in #1. I think that first one is my favorite of the set.

I would be inclined to go for a longer shutter speed for #4 to get a more even visual for the falls. Looks like you have pretty high water flow rates with a fair amount of mud coming down the rivers.

Good post here, 2 is my pick of the lot.

Just a heads up, we have a waterfall Wednesday each week, so you might save a few waterfalls to show in that thread.

Thanks for your kind words. Conditions were not ideal--lot's of moving branches. I know one can combine images, but I did not work that hard on this one. I did not think it was going to be a wall hanger, but was experimenting with an abnormal perspective on this fall. The first one was actually a happy accident in that I was trying like crazy to take the picture from a different spot--close to the fall and not through the trees--but the spray was just too bad there with the wind. My camera LCD actually stopped working for a while! Thus, I had to "settle" for a through the trees shot, that may have been the best one that day. Re the last one--"Dry Falls" (which you can walk behind, but is far from dry with big water flow), here is a more common perspective from the same day:

I did not know! Don't worry, I have lots and lots of waterfall shots. These are just some recent ones. North Carolina has a ton of them from which to choose....;)

Thanks very much--Glen falls is a great place to shoot. There are three falls tho the first two are better than the third. Good suggestion on the highlights. I remember that they are not "blown" per Lightroom, but I should go back and tone them down some. Thank you for the suggestion!

Hey Stephen,

I saw this earlier but was driving, so I was glad that Ben told you about Waterfall Wednesday. :)

#3 is my favorite of the group. I like that window into those series of cascades and falls. A really sweet shot. I also like the extra photo you posted, the water looks great in that.

With your #4 shot, a nice perspective with how its framed with all those leaves. As mentioned about the shutter speed on that. Certainly going slower is probably the norm, but I did want to mention that waterfalls like that sometimes can be shot even faster, 1/400th or so and look really nice. When shooting that fast with a powerful waterfall that shoots out as much as that one, freezing the water is a good way to demonstrate the power of it. Now the shutter speed you did use, seems to be in the middle ground of not fast enough to freeze it, but not slow enough to get the water more silky stringy.
