Hi All,

From our Spring Roadtrip last year, had never been up in South Dakota.
We really loved seeing all the sights and was wow'ed with the span and scope
the Badlands encompassed.

Here's one from that outing.

Neat way of looking at these badlands. The IR almost leaves the hills looking like snow covered crags and makes the foreground vegetation an interesting addition.

Very cool looking Craig! I went through the Badlands finally a year ago and totally enjoyed that area. I definitely am looking to get back soon.

This is a great IR image, I like the colors you ended up with and contrast is great. I wonder, does the latent heat from the shadow areas provide more luminescence than ordinary?

Thanks very much Alan, The light was very nice and highlighted the Peaks and Crevasses.

Hi Jim,

Thanks very much for the kind comment, it was a wild place, it surprised me how it went on and on. Seemed like each area
had a different look and feel.

Thanks very much Ben, Not Sure about your question, I'm not aware that the heat would influence the IR image.

Infrared is heat. If I am not mistaken it’s what allows night vision to work in military applications
Hi Ben, I think it's a different type of IR like the FLIR heat imaging they have now for cell phones, and cameras. Thermal Imaging
is what I think more of for NV Goggles , I might be mistaken but I don't think that IR from a Digital Camera uses or is influenced by
Heat, If so I should have some pretty wild images from shooting here in Texas ;-)

Very nice, Craig. I've never seen this place, but I see why it is called bad!
Thanks Very Much Jeffery, This was our first time and I have to say I was in Awe of the width and breadth the Badlands encompassed.
Also, the light would change the look and feel in a min of seeing it . I have to say I can't wait to go back and see and take it in again.
We did spend almost 5 hours drive from Rapid City circling the National Park.

Craig

I remember this post from FM - it may be how we 'met', after I dropped a comment on it. It still looks totally awesome, seeing it for the 2nd time here!

Craig,

No, I have not gotten any farther with my planned foray into IR shooting. I have been sidtracked with both an astroimaging trip and then a big scenic shooting trip with my regular camera, and so just have not gotten back to trying to get the T2i back out and imaging some IR stuff. It is still very much on the ToDo list though. I need to look up some of our old correspondence on how best to analyze what seems to be some perceived softness shooting that camera with the Polaroid 720nm filter, and see what my next move needs to be.
