Waterfall Wednesday 6/11/2025

This is an image of what it used to look like approaching Elowah Falls before the 2017 Eagle Creek fire. I was always enchanted by the incredibly dense forest surrounding these falls and the creek below. Sadly this small canyon was one of the hardest hit in the Gorge during the fire and a lot of what you see in this scene was scorched down to bare rock. It took several years after the fire to stabilize the trail enough to allow hikers back in but I honestly have not hiked back in myself. I have flown my drone in from downstream near the freeway and can vouch for the fact that the trail as seen here is almost bare even still.

Add whatever falling water scenes you have.

Sweet - one of my favorite falls up in the Gorge. I have wandered up to that viewing platform on many occasions.

The falls were all so pretty! So glad we went on this trip, been wanting to for years!

I feel lucky to be living right next to the Gorge. Latourell Falls are about 1/2 hour from my house.

This is Wahclella Falls, just a few miles east of Elowah and Latourell Falls. Taken in winter, that tree in the center obscures the view when it has leaves!

Taken this past winter? Interesting how many trees off to the left of the falls are still intact. As I compare this view to my archive shots of these falls they almost look like completely different places.

I like the low flow with the more delicate ribbon of falling water. It makes the small steps along the water's path stand out a bit more than a raging flow would do. Neat falls.

That's a lot farther back from the falls than any of my images of them. I was a bit confused as to how many trees were still in the scene since this canyon got hit even harder than Elowah/McCord Creek.

This looks really cool with the wind blown falling water. Most of it isn't even reaching the bottom directly below the rim although its a given its still going to end up in the river below.
