An Unexpected Bloom

I wandered out to my backyard Wednesday hoping to find more blooms on the snow crocus and spotted an early bloom on one of the Helleborus plants. Rare for two reasons - I wasn't expecting it to be blooming already and secondly this is a plant that has blooms that normally point down at the ground making it very hard to get good shots of the flower. This one was aimed out directly at me so it was easy to grab a shot.

What a lovely photo Alan. Awesome detail. What are particulars for this image? Macro? exposure?
Thanks Alan - I actually wandered out ready to see if I could find some birds to shoot so this is a handheld shot using my Canon R5 Mk2 with a 100-500mm lens and a 2x converter set to 600mm with a focal distance of 3.30m. 1/60s @f/11 ISO800.

What a great looking flower Alan. And your long lens did a great job with it.
Thanks Jim - I find it kind of fun that you can get pretty nice closeups like this from a long telephoto and the result is a rather wide DoF with a fast drop-off behind the subject.

you've gotten some crackers out of it so far. looks like a nice setup.
I usually only add the 2x teleconverter when I am looking for birds but I get such clean details I don't bother taking it off if I see some blooms like this one and am far enough away to get focus. Its handy right now in my backyard as its so muddy you can't really go far into it in the first place :)
