I caught this wave slapping a sea stack in front of Face Rock, in Bandon, Oregon. We went there for a couple of days last week, hoping to catch some great color at sunset but it wasn't to be. Consolation prize was some interesting bands of clouds making the distant rocks fade in and out a bit.

Sunset colors would have been great Michael, but I think I like this band of clouds even better. Nice timing with that wave splash.

I am on my way back to California and your wave splash has me looking forward to spending some time at the beach myself.

I've been to Brandon probably 10 times over the years and only got really spectacular skies once. So I was prepared for a lot of gray and a chance of rain. It could have been worse. But any day at the beach is a treat for any Portlander! 😁

Best luck I have had for sunrises/sunsets in Bandon is any season other than summer.

That is a great image Michael. I had to keep going back to look at it and found new points of interest each time. A compelling image.

A very successful photo with interesting light, with a contrasting mountain in the background and a nicely backlit wave in the foreground.. the blue sky completes this composition well - it's beautiful.. you were lucky, Michael!

The white band stayed really low in front of Face Rock for about 30 minutes or so, I snagged a few photos while waiting to see if the conditions would change. Here's one from about 50 feet south of the first image, with a second rock appearing. I felt the first image was better balanced, but this one also got a good splash!
