Morning in Saskatoon.

Finally got my butt in gear and went to a spot on the river in my town where the morning sun builds over the river bank.
I do notice quite a difference in the camera on my new iPhone 15 from the old No. 11.
It was a beautiful morning for the colours in the sky and reflections on the water.

With iPhone 15 Pro.

I wanted to compare the iPhone and my regular OM-1 but realized when I was processing that there is an hour difference in the light.
University Hospital on opposite bank with iPhone 15 Pro at 9:03 am.

Similar picture with the OM-1 but at 8:03

This one is with the OM-1.

Nice morning color show - I love the scattered pink clouds and the nice reflections contrasting with the snow in the first image and the foreground vegetation covered in frost as a lead in for the scene in the last one.

I do like that the iPhone is just always there in my pocket and seemingly impervious to rain but when it comes to a 1:1 comparison like this it really can't match the results from a serious camera with larger sensors. The most dramatic differences between the cameras starts when you bring them up for post processing. The iPhone's computed images (even in RAW) have much less headroom for adjustments compared to a camera like your OM-1.

Thanks so much for your comments.
I agree Alan... The 'always with me' factor is pretty huge and the results are acceptable in many situations.

Nice set Trent. I am partial to the pink hues in the first and last images.

The other two images are pretty nice as well.

At web resolutions it’s hard to see big difference in image quality between modern phone cameras and the big sensor variants. As Alan pointed out the post processing headroom and of course large prints is where the differences stand out.

Beautiful images, Trent. Is frost pretty common along the river?
Thanks so much Kurt... We see lots of frosty mornings along the river. There is a power plant upstream that emits warm water so the river never freezes completely. The water vapour coming off the water can create some pretty spectacular frost on the trees and grasses when the temperature drops.

Thanks Jameel.. I agree and the need to have higher resolution is even less important with such a high percentage of images being viewed on a smart phone. I should do some printing to really evaluate the difference. Thanks for the suggestion.

Awesome work Trent! It's great to see you using the iPhone 15 Pro. That first one is great! I really like how all of the colors interact in it.

Great images all around.
