Salvage Week - 12/02/2023

I didn't do salvage week last week because I wanted to spend time with my son who was visiting for Thanksgiving. So here we go again. Please pile on with your salvaged image.

I have been working to salvage bird images which can be a real challenge. Many times, they can have horrible backgrounds and small branches obstructing them which renders them worthless. But now, we have the remove tool and the blur field tool to fix that. Here is one of a Palm Warbler that I worked on for hours just for practice in case I find a rare bird for which the image is problematic.

This is the original.

This is an image from a while ago from Grand Canyon which I never processed before. It was taken mid day with pretty harsh light and no clouds with a Sony RX100. Took a good dose of dehaze after a Deep Prime run to coax out this image. Cropped out about half the blue sky out of it.

That's a pretty respectable takeaway given what you describe as the starting point.

Returned in October 2023, this time the water levels were higher but the light was flat. However get into approximately the same position take the shot and a little bit of Photoshop work and.......

I hope to return some time but this small river rises and falls incredibly quickly. There was very heavy rain a few hours earlier and the river levels were dropping on my visit so it looks like going when it is raining a lot, luckily it rains a lot on Skye. Ken

I pulled up a nice scene from the Columbia River Gorge from late last winter. I took the shot with my older Mavic 3 which has a telephoto lens that seems to be useful for getting a view of things far away but is next to useless for actually taking photos. Totally different from the Mavic 3 Pro which can take some very nice images using the same sensor with a different lens. I have fought with many of the captures from the 162mm lens on the Mavic 3 trying to tease out something workable and this is yet another attempt. Works for web but wouldn't make a good print.

Atmospherics had a lot of misty haze although not as much as the capture shows. It was a very windy day as can be seen on the water surface in the edit. Original straight out of the camera:
