iPhone 15 Pro

Well it was time to upgrade from my iPhone 7. Especially after having to replace battery every two years.
I was skeptical but from what I've seen, the 3-camera system gives you some options.
This will be enhanced by the Sandmarc lens kit & the Procamera app.
While I do shoot wide, I like the idea of tighter shots with good resolution
The claim is that the 48mp sensor allows for more resolution options with software zoom.
My main intent on this new kit, is NOT to replace my traditional cameras, DSLR or film
There are times I want to do serious photograpjy on a long hike.
While I can still carry a full kit & a tripod at 74, I can tell I'm high mileage with the Motrin & creams for recovery ;-)

Nice side feature - it's basically water resistant (30 minutes at 20') so it makes a great rainy day camera. I still love my DSLR gear but it's nice having this much camera in my pocket all of the time.

Hey Dan, I had the 11 Pro, and upgraded a few weeks ago to the 15 Pro Max. I didn't care for the larger size, but I wanted the optical zoom lens that goes to 5x optically. So I decided it was worth the trade off.

As you know, I do lots of video. And while our DSLR's can beat the iPhones in regards to photos. There is no DSLR or Mirrorless that can compete with todays smart phones in regards to video. I had been doing all of my video travel guides with my 11 Pro and a gimbal for a couple of years now. So I actually bought the iPhone 15 Pro Max to primarily be my dedicated video camera.

I actually am still using my 11 Pro as my main phone.

When I am traveling and on the road, which I do a lot of, I will take photos with my DSLR, but also with the iPhone 15 in 48mp Raw. I will edit it on my phone and then upload that here. If you look at my threads, most of them recently have been shot with the new iPhone.

I haven't tried it with my new 15, but the 11 Pro was also water proof to 3 meters or whatever it was. I had it drop into a puddle of water for only a second or two, and while the phone worked, you couldn't charge it as it would say the lightning connector was wet and wait for it to dry out. I wonder with the new usb C connected if that's same?

I would assume yes - USB-C connectors have exposed pins and last time I checked water is still conductive 😁

Ha ha... I would assume so too. But that to me in part doesn't go along with the water proof claims, because if the phone says it's Wet, and can't be charged, depending on the battery level when it got dunked could result in a dead phone. The Mag Charge would be an option to charge as long as you have one of those with you.

Thank you for sharing your opinions, very helpful. I'm going to update my and my wife's iPhones to the 15 when we'll be back home from our Round the World tour - we have 11 and 12, our batteries started to shorten their lives, and rather than changing batteries I feel that the 15 Max is worth the update for the lenses and video capabilities (besides all the other improvements). We'll probably get a Max and a 15 Pro (or two maxes, if I can manage to convince the wife to carry it :p)

Best regards,

Vieri

Around the World sure sounds like fun! Post some photos from your trip from time to time, even if they are iPhone photos.

I think you are thinking the right thoughts on the phones. I am really like the quality I am getting from the 15 Pro Max. The slightly larger size hasn't been the issue I thought it would be.

Hey Jim, Around the World is great, we got to see Australia, New Zealand and Easter Island in the last two months and something, and we are going to spend the next month or so on the Pacific Northwest of the US!

Glad you agree with my thinking on the phones, I thought it'd make sense for us. Thank you for your comment on the size, like you I was not really convinced about getting a larger phone, your comment definitely helped! Seeing them "in the flesh" (so to speak) will help, but that will have to wait until mid-December when we're back home.

Best regards,

Vieri
