Catalina Island Wildflowers

In addition to the rest of California that was (and still is) experiencing a wildflower superbloom thanks to a wet winter, Catalina Island also had an intense wildflower season. By the time I visited later in May, the apex of the bloom had long since passed, but there were still plenty of wildflowers

On the slopes surrounding the city of Avalon, it looked like there were red geraniums and other colors. Something I wasn't expecting was the presence of so many prickly pear cactus and their blooming yellow flowers. I also enjoyed seeing the indian paintbrush, mariposa lily, lupine and other colorful flowers grow amongst the prickly pear.

All four of these images were taken from a vehicle during my tour of the interior of the island. As @AlanLichty mentioned, the island was pretty green during this time. I hope you enjoy, @JimFox.

That's so cool looking Michael. It's great to see all of the wildflowers there. I recall there being lots of flowers by the old Wrigley mansion too.

I don't recall, did you spend overnight there?
