Meet Darth

Darth Mavic that is....... FedEx paid me a visit today and left this for me to play with  I thought it might be interesting to compare my old Mavic 3 with the Mavic 3 Pro so I set them up on my desk while the new drone and the controller are getting updates from DJI.

Can't wait to get this up in the air so I can compare the cameras. From what I have seen the telephoto camera got a very serious image quality update and now there is a third camera with a 70mm lens and the 1/1.3 sensor from the Mini 3 Pro. The 24mm Hasselblad camera is the same on both drones.

Other than the camera gimbal they look identical. Looking forward to mine which should be here next week - just in time when I return from Alaska :(

It is longer in the front because of the camera system and it looks like the front arms are slightly longer:

There are firmware updates for your RC Pro controller. DJI's server(s) must be getting pounded because the download is absolutely glacial.

Thanks - You can't quite see it from here but it looks like they moved the front arm pivot points back just a little bit to make more room for the gimbal. When it is folded the front motors stick out farther in the back. I am trying to modify my backpack case to fit this thing.

i forgot about that stupid muzzle. it looks like they made it even more complicated on the 3p. i replaced mine a while back with a big plastic piece that snaps on the front.

that's interesting that they changed the body. i thought it was just a camera upgrade. guess it would make sense to add in another camera. doesn't look like too much of a difference, so hopefully you can make your case work without too much of a modification.

I was able to shave enough out of the case to make it work last night. Not the cleanest cuts in the foam but I will try to smooth the shapes out a bit today:

The cover looks like it takes a while to take off and put it back again. Are there any options to just secure the propellers? I bought an after market 3d printed plastic bracket which is a breeze to work with.

It's actually really quick to remove and install - much easier than the plastic bubble on the Air 2. The primary purpose of it is to protect the gimbal/camera assembly. This is similar to what I have for the Mavic 3 and I am glad for the gimbal protection.

Oh ok. I thought this was only to secure the propellers and the gimbal protector is like the plastic bubble. Makes sense.

There's no place to install something like the plastic bubble for the Air series and the gimbal is huge compared especially to the Air 2. When I pulled that back before sending it up to you I almost laughed at how small the gimbal/camera assembly was compared to the Mavic 3. Now I find that the Mavic 3 gimbal looks small compared to the Mavic 3 Pro.

One more comment - DxO PureRAW v3.2 (the newest) works with the 24mm lens/camera but doesn't want to play with the DNG files from the 70mm or 166mm lenses/cameras. We will have to wait for another update from DxO for those lens/sensor combinations.

That said the output from the 166mm camera is a very serious improvement over the old 162mm setup on the Mavic 3. Also notable is the time required for acquiring satellites - this thing finds 20 of them in about 2 seconds. My Mavic 3 takes at least 10 seconds to find a dozen.

Very nice. I'd love to have the Pro. I can't wait to see some photos.
Already started posting with this morning's sunrise :)

hopefully they make one to fit cause it's the best cap solution i've run across.
The Mavic 3 Pro hasn't even been out for a week yet so this might be a bit early to be expecting a wide choice of third party accessories. DJI stopped making the older Mavic 3 so I expect a pretty robust market for that sort of thing refitted for the M3 Pro.
