My contributions to this week, Winged Wednesday thread are photos of the Cinnamon teal. This very shy, plain-looking duck has spectacular wing colors. Many ducks run on the water to attain flight speed. Not so for the cinnamon teal, they explode off the water without warning. (I won't be around tonight or tomorrow morning so my post is earlier than usual)

Thrust from his webbed feet and a flap of his wings and the teal explodes from the water

Anticipating the take-off is pure intuition

A third selection from this takeoff sequence. The other duck is an American wigeon

And a fourth selection from this takeoff sequence.

It's all about the Cinamon teal's outrageous wing colors.

Love how that last one’s wings are almost touching the water. Great sharpness great pose and isolation. A world class bird image

Superb set of take off shots of this gorgeous duck Eric. I've not seen one of these ducks.

I looked for some pictures in keeping with Eric's theme but have very few of ducks taking off. Something to work at I guess.
Here are a few I could find.

Wood duck seemed to just lift off without any runway needed.

A Common Goldeneye.. They seem to prefer a bit of a run on the water before taking off.

Good old Mallards will also just take a couple of steps and are in flight.

This is a female Ruddy duck that never did bother flying. Just running from one side of the pond to the other.

superb work as expected, Trent. That's a good idea for a Winged Wednesday, "Takeoff pics."

I looked at both of your take-off pics and then went to see what I had in my stash. Found one - took a careful look, looked back at yours and decided I would avoid embarrassment and post some other wings instead 😁
