Last weekend featured a lot of freezing rain and sleet in my area and the local hummers were furiously guarding THEIR feeders against interlopers who were wishing the owners would share. This is one of the guards giving me the stink eye since I am shooting his portrait from right under HIS feeder.

Thanks Eric - they are pretty easy to shoot this time of year. I just walk out onto my deck with my DSLR in hand and take shots of them perched and watching from the nearby trees. I don't bother to hide or be stealthy at all

Cooper's Hawk.

A very bedraggled Swainson's Hawk on a day with a soaking rain all day.

A Sharp-shinned Hawk that landed in a tree in my yard a few years ago. Some of these do stay around in the winter.

Eric The photograph was taken along the California coast between Santa Cruz and Pescadero near Pigeon Point Lighthouse. I believe it is a White Tailed Kite.
