Too Close For Comfort

Last week I unintentionally got a little too close for comfort with a herd of Bison. o_O

I was leaving Theodore Roosevelt NP after a night of Milky Way photography and as I rounded the bend I saw a few cars ahead with their brake lights on. With a National Park that is full of wildlife, that's not unusual and I figured there was some wildlife out in the field. As I got closer to the car that was stopped in front of me, I saw some Bison off to the left side of road, and figured oh, that's it. But then as I was looking around, I saw there was 30 or 4 Bison actually in the road walking down the road towards my direction. I thought quickly if I could turn around as I didn't want to have Bison walking within inches of my Jeep, but I was already sandwiched in with a car behind me.

So I grabbed my iphone and started videoing!

Now if I was thinking Instagram and viral, I guess I would have aimed the video towards the front as it was more compelling and a bit scary to watch the Bison walking so close to each of the cars. But I was in normal photographer mode, so I started videoing as they began to walk past the side of my Jeep. I did briefly aim the video camera towards the front, but I just wasn't thinking about capturing something that could go viral.

Anyway, this is the video, hopefully it's a bit interesting.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

What!?! You didn't get out for a close-up selfie? You could have taken a great one petting the calf that was in the scene around the 1:00 mark. Guaranteed to go viral assuming we could recover the phone and the photo 🤣

Kinda fun all things considered.

Thanks Alan! It was kind of fun and definitely different. I would lie if I said I wasn't a bit nervous though as my Jeep is in bad enough shape, one wrong look from a Bison and the Jeep would probably fall into a 1000 pieces.

What a great video Jim... Quite the experience. Looks like your subjects all went to the same hairstylist for the video walk through.
