Those Polar Bears are actually much more numerous today than they were ten years ago.

As a former professor of Environmental Sciences, I am always amazed, although not surprised, at how the media and environmental groups control the beliefs of the general public. The scientific data do not show that the populations of Polar Bears in Alaska and Greenland are decreasing. In fact, it shows that Polar Bear Populations overall are increasing. This is a heavily researched topic and overall, for the past few decades the populations are increasing. Here is a short article that gives the factual information if you are interested.

Evocative image. Douglas I was unaware of the Polar Bear numbers controversy and enjoyed an hours reading trying to disentangle the fate of the polar bear from the validity of global warming. I think that it may take a lot more reading before I get a firm grasp of the situation. Ken

Thanks Jim. Indeed it was. When I visited there was already conditions which made it hard for the bears to find food. The ice relative to what it was a decade ago was substantially less.

Thanks for your thoughts and sharing that link. I'll read that later. What I witnessed first hand as well as the what I heard from the tour operators tell a different story.

You are correct. I should have posted a more recent accounting, but I was busy so I just grabbed the first one I could find. Here is a more recent paper that explains some of the shenanigans that are going on to doctor the numbers to fit a specific narrative.

Seems like rallying public support around a cause by using bad data is a really poor strategy & one that could come back at them. But I guess it's being used in other arenas to great effect (unfortunately).

Unfortunately, the state of science in today's world is in a shambles. It is almost as if we are going back into the Dark Ages. I often challenged my more rabid environmental friends that misrepresenting the facts was bad practice, but they believed that the ends justified the means. If you go back and look at all of the dire environmental predictions that have been made in the last forty to fifty years you will be amazed by how many have failed. Even worse is that some of the failed ones are still being made today in textbooks.
