I've own this lens and use it for portrait photography. Easily worth the puchase. I shot the Batis in the past and I find little difference overall. For as little as I use this focal length, this lens is a winner.

It sure is a tempting lens...but it has one character trait that presents itself when you have backlit backgrounds like leaves, the bokeh gets a little swirly and a little nervous in the images I have seen. When I shoot portraits, I use that type of background a lot. The FE 50mm f/1.4 did it too...the 85GM does not seem to be as bad, mostly due to f/1.4. Too bad the GM is 3x the price of this one!

That's just it. For 1/3 the price, I get a lens that's nearly perfect . . . most of the time. At least for me, as much as I shoot at this focal length, it makes all the sense in the world. Just need to watch that background.
