Street Blues

Mike there is absolutely zero that I don't like about this image.

It's a freaking home-run in my opinion. A minor nit might be that the foot is a bit awkwardly cropped but there is so much other goodness it's hard to notice unless you're nitting. If it bothers you in the least a slight vignette could take care of it.

NICE ONE!

Hey Mike,

This is super cool looking! So many cool details.

I definitely need to figure out a way to go shoot some street photography this weekend too!

Does street photography have to be B&W? Can it be color too?

Wow, thanks for the encouraging comments. I’ll look into a slight vignette. I’m certainly not opposed to vignette but I guess I unconsciously didn’t add any to keep it more natural. Yeah, natural, like b/w ;).

Ha, my only defense is a long time admiration for the work of Ruud Albers, a current Dutch photographer who has the unique skill to take the most mundane street shots and apply interpretation, all in b/w. I’d give you a link but he no longer posts to the site where I followed his work.

To answer your question, I don’t think it’s necessary to use b/w for street but I think it removes the distraction of color and lets our eye more easily examine the shapes, tone, detail and interpretive value within each image.

Anyway, that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it... Mike

I agree this is a home run. It is seldom I see a street image this sharp and detailed. plus the mood, the subject, the whole nine yards is perfect.
