For today's Winged Wednesday I want to share photos of an American Kestrel named Finley, Finley is a falconer's bird.

This is not Finley. Prior to the above flight shots, this was my best kestrel photo in the wild. The prey bird was a gamble's Quail chick

My meager offering for today are some cormorants drying themselves off on a log in the Siuslaw River near the marina in Florence.

Just took this while I was standing in my living room, through the breakfast room, and out through a dirty window. I hadn't planned on shooting a bird, but my lens and camera were close, although I had to quickly switch lens. All things considered, it didn't come out too bad I thought.

I have three pictures, all from a park close to my house that is identified as a Hot Birding spot on eBird.

This is a Rough-legged Hawk, probably on migration to the central US. They breed way up north in the tundra and taiga.
This one was being harassed by two Common Ravens.

These small little beauties are usually flitting around and I rarely get one to sit still and get a picture of the yellow and orange crown feathers. It is an Orange-crowned Kinglet and only the second one I have seen in this park over the years.

This Merlin was sitting on the top of a spruce tree and seemed content and not about to move so I switched my Olympus camera to the Pro-capture mode and waited for it to leave. I chose this picture to process as it showed off the wings quite nicely.

Alan I think I will join you in the drying off mode, I took this last spring and just processed it this week.

They're a beautiful bird from the head down but have the strangest looking face.

Here are some Turkey Vultures I used to drive past on my way to work. They were part of a group of 15 or so that hung out in two tall trees next to a busy road. They're very cool birds. While their wrinkly red heads, sunken eyes and knobby beaks are strikingly unattractive at first, the more I watched them the more they reminded me of big chickens, in an endearing way. They're social birds and love to sit together in the sun and have a good preen.

I love it! Very nice. It's so satisfying when hasty lens-switching pays off.
