Esther Short Park Roses Pt. 1

A number of years ago I used to walk around downtown Vancouver during my lunch break with my camera in hand looking for interesting blooms. Turned out there was a very nice rose garden in Esther Short Park that has some magnificent specimens so I started making a point of going there in the spring when they were in full bloom. This is a pair of shots from one of those visits on a dry day. There are a lot more in my stash where these came from.

Wow two very beautiful roses. Did I ever tell you that I love roses? The red/orange of that first one is well exposed and processed, not easy. Love the delicate yellow/white pink variations in the second.

Two very pretty roses of the uncommon variety. In the first one, I'd try darkening the background to make the rose stand out more, if it was mine.

I think I have heard that rumor Ben... I am surprised you didn't name one of your kids "Rose". :)

Thanks Ben - I was well aware of your attraction to roses. Dead opposite of my wife - she ripped out rose gardens both at our house in SLC as well as here in Vancouver.

Thanks Jameel - there are quite a few unique varieties in this garden although nothing like the International Rose Test Garden in Portland. I have never shot at that garden in spite of it being 1/2 block from the Portland Japanese Garden. They charge admission FWIW. Good suggestion on the background. This is actually darkened quite a bit but I could have done a lot more now that I look at it online.

Those are like perfect roses! What a great way to spend your lunch in the old days.
Thanks Jim - I took a lot of shots like these with various digital pocket cameras but brought out a DSLR for the roses.

Beautiful images, Alan.
Thanks Doug.
