Trona Pinnacles - Night Sky

The stars shine bright at Trona Pinnacles in California. This is from a week or so ago during a new moon. The stars were so bright it's amazing how much they could light up the ground. I think I am making progress in these. I was shooting Deep Space Astro also with my D850, so I was running back and forth from where I had that set up to where my other 3 cameras were setup for the timelapse. I did mess up with my D610 which doesn't have Exposure smoothing since it's so old, and I had it in Shutter priority instead of manual for the in camera timelapse and I ended up with too much flickering. So this one will start out just at night, with no Day to Night transition.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

I really like the way this one ends, with the transition to early morning light, I also like the zoom in and out. Did you do this manually or in Movavi?

Magnificent star gazing & video. It's all wonderful, I especially like how the clouds have a ghostly appearance moving through the frames. 🌟✨🤩

Nice work Jim, I especially like the last two clips with the clouds and sunrise starting. I do have to say though that I don't care for the zoom transition you use, especially with such similar and calming video clips. I think a standard dissolve of 1-3 seconds would work much better.

Hey Jim, I appreciate that. And thanks for your thoughts on those transitions. I think I prefer the zoom ones when going from a wider to a tighter shot, but I will try it with a fade to see how it feels. Thanks!

Using Premiere Elements perhaps the terminology is different, a fade goes to black then lightens up into the next clip, a dissolve is a smoother transition which is more traditional. Fades work well when moving from the end of one day to starting another.

I actually couldn't find the Fades in Premiere Elements. In Movavi what you describe is called a Fade and it doesn't go to black, although they have 20 different types of fades.

Which dissolve in Premiere would you suggest. I bought it, because it renders videos about 100 times faster then Photoshop, so I am starting to use it for basic editing. The interface of Premiere I don't totally care for as I am not one for all of these blocks to click on to make a color or light adjustment. I much prefer a slider so I can have more exact control. Premiere does seem pretty powerful, but so far I still really prefer the interface of Movavi much more. But I am willing to start dabbling into Premiere a bit.

In my old version 15 the transition is called cross dissolve. Also, when you are in a adjustment area like color look for a small "more" in the bottom right below all the boxes. Click and it will open up a more traditional slider interface. I also prefer that - don't know if you can make it the default.

Thanks Jim.

In Movavi it's called Cross Fade. Not sure why the 2 products seem to be mixing up the same term.

Thanks for the tip about the More button, it does still open up the sliders.
