Thursday's Task 12/31/2020 Happy New Year!

**** While this is posted in the Landscape Forum, the Photos are most likely not going to be Landscape Photos. I urge everyone if you don't have any photos taken on January 1st from past years, grab your camera and go out and take a photo of something, anything and post it in this thread. It could be a photo of your party favors, your New Years food, etc... :) Jim

It appears that I made a poor choice of topics for this thread. I have shot on New Years day for years when I was a college teacher with a wonderful break at the end of the fall semester until mid January. Right after Christmas I would leave for the west to photograph places like Grand Canyon, Bryce, and Arches so I have a stash of images from New Year days. I forgot that others didn't have that time.

It is the last day of 2020 and I am sure we are all thankful that it is ending. Before I announce the final task of the year I want to thank those posters who have made numerous contributions by their comments, posts, and suggestions that make this a viable place to participate in photographic activities. In no particular order, Amy Earl, Amy Nelson, MonikaC, Alisa, Jim Dockery, Timmeh, Kurt Harrigan, Jim Peterson, Bob Shuman, Mike Koopsen, Nilo Photograhy (Lenny), Barry Hamilton, Darcy Grizzle, Mike Mancil, Jeffrey, Lionking, Bob Denton, Pepper, Tom Narwid, Joe Colozo, Don LIttlefield, Craig Carr, Jim Sanderson, Dave Johnson, Sonny, Vieri, John Holbrook, John C, Colorado CJ, Tex Schneider, Rick (rfkiii), Chuckp, and Brian. If anyone here knows anyone I have missed please let me know.

The task for this week is to post an image that has significance for you with regard to a New Year in the past.

Mine is going to the Rose Parade of 2017 with my family. I had been to the Rose Parade when I was at USC but had never been with my family. It was an amazing experience. And to top it off, USC beat Penn State in the waning moments of the Rose Bowl game.

Good one Douglas. I went to see the Rose parade several times in the 1950's and 60's. I don't do a lot of photography in winter so I am going to have to think about this.

Nice set Doug. For all of the winter trips I have taken I have never been out shooting on New Year's Day since first owning a digital camera.

That's a good one Doug, I will have to think Hard on this one.

**** As a reminder, the photos don't have to be Landscape images just because this is posted in the Landscape Forum. They can be anything.

I liked your post Doug. I've always wanted to go down for the parade but somehow have never quite made it. Nice pics of a great event.

Nice set Doug. Like others I have not been out on new years day shooting. Part of the reason is the PNW weather. It is typically cloudy/rainy/overcast around this time of the year.

Sorry to be so late with this. I have been from early this morning until this afternoon working a timelapse for this post because that's what I am doing. When you view the TL's you will see why I am not out doing landscapes.

These are really just tests to find optimum sequence intervals, and to learn more about doing a TL using RAWs.

This is from this afternoon. It's a series of about 200 raws converted to a TL in Movovi. I took them at 3 second intevals and processed them at 0.1 intervals. I did a much longer one this morning,, but it was ruined by focus. I had the first image in focus, but subsequent images focused on the clouds and never recovered. This one was focused in manual focus and left to run.

The following is a collage of 3 in camera Tl's at 3, 8 and 10 second intervals. I took these last night.

Jim and I are trying to promote more video work in the video forum. I hope these very boring TL's don't turn anyone off, they are fun.

Happy New Year, all!

I got myself the Tamron 150-600mm lens for Christmas and got my first pictures of the moon with it just after midnight last night.

I went through my back catalog and didn't find any photos from New Year's Day except for last year. I was at my parent's and took one of this maple tree that has been a signficant part of my life growing up. My sisters and I named it Glory Maple when we were little and used to give it hugs all the time :) It has these gnarly, crooked branches and on this day a light dusting of snow made it look especially interesting to photograph from this low angle.

Hey Doug You haven't fooled me. The No1 pic was your priority here. All the rest are a "smoke screen" (LOL)!!
