I decided to convert my D300 to Full Spectrum, and started out with a Super Color 590nm filter on my Sigma 17-24 Aspherical glass. I asked Lifepixel about this lens but they really had no info on it. I havent done the 30min training session they offer yet. So I really have no clue of what I'm doing just yet. I would like some input from some seasoned IR peepes here, to help understand what I'm looking at here.

I have a lot to learn, and I appear to have a hotspot right in the middle of the frame.

So this is more of the results I was looking for. What does the forum think?

I assume the filter requires a long exposure as seen in the clouds. I like the look of the second image.

Hey Sonny! It's great to see another camera converted. I toyed with the idea of doing a full spectrum conversion so that I could use it for both Astro and IR.

I think #3 and 4 look great. The false color in #3 looks pretty good, and the B&W conversion looks awesome!

What is #1? Just the full spectrum?

BTW, my son lives about 10 mins from that entrance gate. I will be back there at Thanksgiving I think.

Yes it does require a longer exposure.
To my knowledge, the filter you are using a Full Spectrum conversion is similar to just using a Polarizer, so you are losing a stop of light or so. The IR filter I have to use on a regular DSLR is like using a 10 stop ND it's so thick. What are you seeing?

Its gonna take some time to learn this new realm of photography. Its kinda of like when I first discovered photography, totally fascinating!

#3 was a channel mix between red and blue, and the B&W was a conversion after the channel mix with some adjustments to the gray scale.

#1 is a subtly processed full spectrum.

Does your son work at the lab?
Since Covid I rarely drive up the hill, but today I had to go up there to pick up a trailer from a friend of mine. So I thought I would dive into IR. LOL

Your knowledge is better than mine in this realm, so you are probably correct. Honestly Jim, I just kinda dived into this without doing a lot of research. I liked what I was seeing with the IR images I've seen in this section and on the interwebs. The filter I have is red in color, and seems to reflect what I'm seeing in the mages. Thank you for your input, I really do appreciate it.

Something I've read about is the custom WB settings that are based off of green grass. I live northern NM and this time of year there is no green grass. LOL
Maybe I'll find some in Dallas while I'm there this weekend.

My son had worked at the labs for a few years, now he works at a flooring and window covering place in Los Alamos, he lives in White Rock.

If you are close to there let’s get together on my next trip, which should be at Thanksgiving.

IR is really fun! It is like a whole new learning experience. Since I was thinking one time about full spectrum it is interesting to see what it looks like with no filters.

I like White Rock, neat little community, and I'm close enough to drive up and would love to get together! I'll be off work during the Thanksgiving holiday so it shouldnt an issue at all.

Sounds like a plan. It could change in this crazy world today, but my plan is to be at my sons for Thanksgiving. So maybe that Friday or Saturday we can get together.
