Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Dolomites - a classic view

The classic view of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, on the Dolomites, on one spectacular October sunset. 15 minutes after taking this shot, the mountains were completely wrapped in thick fog... 1/20 second with my Hasselblad X1D, Hasselblad XCD 21mm and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest Ultra filters.

Thank you for viewing, best regards

Great shot. I just had to climb the north face of the Cima Grande (center of the 3 towers on the right) when I was in Europe. Not perfect rock, but a spectacular steep face in a beautiful setting.

I really can't remember which one we started to climb (the couple glasses of wine tonight may have something to do with it ......), but we kept thinking that the rock had to get better on the next pitch. After a bit, we realized that the belayer was an integral part of the anchor. We were convinced that Heinz Mariacher had seriously sandbagged us, even though we brought a full rack after he had recommended a few stoppers & mostly slings & quickdraws. But I do remember the hut at the base we stayed at -- the "bathroom" had 2 raised "footprints" to squat on while doings ones business, which would be OK, except that they were beneath the effluent. And we were there in the off season (nobody else there). Even finding the raps was, um, thought provoking.

About the climb - both you and Jim you are much braver than I am, I'd rather photograph the Cime than try and climb them!

Love the light and the composition in this Vieri. It really sets this apart from many Dolomite views.

Outstanding, Vieri! Is that structure one of the 'Refugios' that are found along the trails there? They are often named after the mountain nearby.

Thank you very much Jim, I am glad you enjoyed it! :) I find the challenge of portraying the Dolomites, with their iconic and really well-photographed views, really motivating and inspiring, so your comment is truly much appreciated :)

Lovely light and a sweeping view. Stunning imagery.
Thank you very much indeed Jameel! :)

Thank you very much indeed Jeffrey, glad you enjoyed it! :) Yes, that is the Rifugio Locatelli, named after Antonio Locatelli, an alpinist / aviator / politician and President of the Bergamo Alpine Club at the time of his death, in 1036.

Beautiful! Congrats on the feature!! Well deserved!

Fabulous! I am set to be staying at Locatelli, among others, next year. Inspired.....
