This is the timelapse I took a week ago in Yosemite. The single image I posted a couple of days ago was taken from the middle of this timelapse. The moon was up and you can see just how well the valley is lit by the moon, and you can see just how dark it starts to get once the moon does set.
A bit of work is involved with this as cars that are driving out on Hwy41 to leave Yosemite, the road turns so that the cars headlights nail all of the closest trees, for 1 to 3 frames depending on how slow the car is driving. I find that doesn't look good in the timelapse as it's visually pretty jarring, so I have to go through each of those frames and use the frame previous to the headlights to mask in and cover up the glowing trees.
I got up to the overlook a bit late. I was down in the valley, and finally got some decent internet access down there to access FocalWorld that night. So I lost an hour as I was taking care of business here on FocalWorld first. I had cell reception all day in Yosemite, but the internet wasn't working, so once it finally did, I didn't want to move until I was up to date.
And as the clouds came in at the end, it also started to rain a bit, so that's when I stopped photographing for the timelapse. All in all, this is about 400 images taken.
Also, I know some of you will spot that the sky is moving slower then normal in my timelapses. Because I didn't get a whole night of images for the timelapse, I had less to work with. Normally my night time timelapses are sped up 100% from the speed they play at to get the Milky Way to race through the night. Since I had less, the timelapse was only lasting like 30 seconds. So I slowed down it's play speed a bit to help stretch it out. Which for some, you might not like the slower more relaxed pace of the stars, but I think the slower speed actually benefits the car headlights as the vehicles drive down in the valley.
So for this one, hopefully everyone can enjoy the little slower playback, and hopefully with the jazz music I picked for this one, it's upbeat rhythm will help it not to be as noticed.
