Yaki Point, Grand Canyon National Park, AZ

This image was taken over 25 years ago. I have been thinking about going to Grand Canyon before a major snowstorm (I live 2 1/2 hours away) this winter and was looking at other images I have taken in past winters.

The magenta cast is from the sunset behind me, so this is exactly how it looked.

Thank you, Ben. I do: it was Fujichrome Velvia 50. I also remember that it was really cold. I'm not sure I could work this location anymore because you can only get there on the shuttle.

The image has a great tone, and love the snow too.

I will confirm that Yaki point is shuttle parking only, or you can park in a parking lot off the 64 and walk 1/2 mile to get there.

This is a very cool shot Doug. I like the pastel tones in it.

I dislike the whole shuttle idea on the west rim of the Grand Canyon, it has certainly stopped me from shooting there. Not sure if it's a 365 day a year restriction, I just stopped paying attention to it a few years back and just focus on the East Rim.

Nice one - I like the mood the snow imparts along with the winter skies in the distance.

Every time I pull up one of my old shots from Velvia days I wonder about loading up a roll again. The problem for me is as soon as I do and shoot a few during the day I find myself cussing that evening when I can't pull up the day's shots on my laptop to see what I got. o_O

Nice soft light....good catch. The last time you and I went must have been 10 years ago.....let's go this winter.

If I shoot at sunset I am not sure if the last shuttle is late enough for me to get what I want. I am pretty sure that it is required all year long unlike the West Rim shuttle which is suspended in winter.

I know what you are saying. I still have at least 20 rolls of Velvia 50 in my freezer and the Nikon FA I used to take images then.

Thanks for your kind comments, Alan.

I too am so tired of the shuttles they have implemented in the National Parks. I would rather see them limit the number of people they allow in. It is such a zoo in so many of he parks now. They do suspend the West Rim shuttle in winter but the Yaki Point shuttle is mandatory all year long.

Thanks for your kind comments, JIm.
