Wings of the North

The north area of the Bisti is quite different from the south rim of the wilderness area with most of the wing like structures forming along the sides of the hills given the layers that are exposed to the elements. Wings are clustered above head height whereas they are often at ground level along the south side. This is an example of a string of them along one of the hillsides. Almost all of the reddish brown colored gravel like rocks are small fragments of petrified wood.

Hey Alan,

That's pretty cool. I do like all of the wings that inhabit that Northwest area. I like the lines leading up to these in the shot. Did you climb up and shoot any close up? There is an area there where you can get like 3 cool wings in a row that look impressive when shooting them at their level. I might have to dig some of those out later if I can find them.

Your observational skills are great, Alan. You would have made a good geologist. Those little ridges in the clay of the middle small hill are caused by soil creep from expansion and contraction (expansion = wet and contraction = dry) of the bentonite clays.
