Yesterday at a local marsh with my new macro lens. The Sigma Art 105mm macro is amazingly sharp, unfortunately it doesn't find the insects in interesting poses, persuade them to stay still or accurately focus for you. Ah well more practice needed, but I am happy with these two images. I think that they are:1. Male Common Hawker and 2. Female emerald damselfly. I am happy to be corrected. We have had a very light shower, the first rain in weeks and the dragonfly was just drying out. Much of England has drought conditions with hosepipe bans and no car washing etc. here in the usually very wet North West we have low water levels but no water restrictions. Ken

I'm sticking with birds. Here is a Martial Eagle taking off from a tree

1) On the tree

2) Preparing for flight

3) In the air

4) Flying (not quite fully sharp but I still like it)

They are beautiful but I don't want them in my food. It is somewhat amusing that flies can get through the smallest opening in the room but can’t get out through an open window!
Maybe you know the answer Dr. Watts; is a dead fly called a flew?

My medical latin is pretty rusty but I think a dead blow fly would be blown.

I believe your last fly to be a long-legged fly, perhaps Condylostylus occidentalis
