Some nice shots Douglas. The Downey is the only one I have seen around here. Mine are three different woodpeckers, all with implied eating.

Tough acts to follow as always - nice woodpecker imagery from both of you.

I am back to my collection of more seagulls - in this case a bunch of them hunkered down during a blustery December day at Oswald West State Park in Oregon. This small beach is known as Smuggler's Cove.

That is a lovely sequence Ken. My fav is the first one. The duck's neck and head are so expressive.

HI JIm.. To be honest it was from not having my ISO high enough and my shutter speed was pretty low. I wish I could say I did it intentionally but it was inexperience. As it turned out it was a happy accident as it did portray the incredible movement of a woodpeckers head. They actually have specialized structures that prevent them from having concussions.

Maybe the NFL should look into this to see how they might design helmets better.
