White Sands

Hey all, I spent yesterday morning at White Sands. I hiked a very long ways looking for unmolested sand dunes much to my frustration. I have subsequently learned there are other areas I should have gone into. Anywhooselbees, That was so yesterday. The adventure part of my vacation is winding down and I’m getting lazy (and warm) staying in hotels for my last few days. I’ll be in Moab for a quick stop, its freezing in this part of the world, so will be planning a repeat visit for arches, canyonlands, etc. Looking forward to spending more time here when I’m not on the road, its been great seeing my favorite photographers here on FW. Here’s my favorite from White Sands.

Thanks for the comments, No ND used on this, just a CPol to darken the sky, and purposely underexposed. I had planned it for a B&W conversion, but I decided the color one suited me better on account of the muted palette. I get that its darker than some would prefer, but its the moody vibe I prefer in my images :)

Hey Aaron,

Nice work here. I think the fact that you had people guessing as to how you took this adds to this shot. When a shot causes a person to think, I think that's good and adds value to an image.

White Sands is a fun place, a lot of diversity depending on where you stop and hike at. It's definitely a place that takes a visit or two to really get your bearings as to where you want to shoot.

So on to Arches and Canyonlands? It should be great up there, not sure how much snow is left from their storms last week, but any snow there will add some interesting contrasts to your images.

Hey Jim, thanks! Yeah, New Mexico in general is a different/beautiful place. I’ll have to come back when I have less than 2800 miles under my belt. Trip fatigue is setting in for sure. Currently boiling at Pagosa hot springs, that helps :) Moab twins tomorrow, we shall see... best A
