Where to fly?

Very tricky navigating the no fly zones. I've been researching maps of places I want to shoot ski/hike/climb videos and was disappointed to find that most of my go-to winter back-country ski area is just within the border of a Wilderness area. A few miles down the road though there are some peaks I don't hit as often that I'll be doing this winter since they aren't. Luckily for me some of my favorite local mountains are legal, although not so easy to get to in the winter since the highway isn't plowed.

What's the range that you can fly the drone? Can you drive up as far as you can before the snow covered road stops you, and then fly the drone the rest of the way?

Technically maybe, the range is about 5 miles if you have good line of site for the radio controller, but up there trees and mountains would get in the way, so it wouldn't work. I'll just cross-country ski to a good spot and try it.
