The railroad museum in Laws has a lot of old machinery besides stuff related to railroads. This was from a section that had mostly old farming equipment of various ages and flavors. Most of what they did to make early farming equipment was quite fascinating once you figured out how it worked and what it was used for and other pieces of the rusting hardware were less than intuitive with respect to its original function. This is one of the latter category and even after staring at how the gears, chains, and pulleys worked I still had no clue what it actually did. It still kept my attention for the ingenuity of all of the mechanisms that were employed to make tis work. Now if I only had a clue what it was for......

Wow, look at that old chain drive, no idea what this did, maybe for potato of other root type harvesting? Just a wild guess. Neat image.

So glad to see you visited that site. I agree, hard to tell what a lot of that stuff ever did. But the displays there are wonderful. I'm a lifetime supporting member of the Laws Railroad Museum and Historical Site, and the Carson & Colorado Railway. I am a railroad historian of the SP Narrow Gauge that served that area. Been there about a hundred times.

Thanks! Your posts and Barry’s convinced me to make that a destination on this trip. I had a blast wandering around there and shooting.
