Waterfall Wednesday 9/6/2023

Today marks 6 years worth of this community thread named Waterfall Wednesday with the first one posted on 9/6/2017. FocalWorld was a young website still in its first month of existence and wasn't quite as refined for using the Gallery yet so images were mostly confined to 1200 pixels wide.

I thought it might be interesting to compare the image I posted of the Grinnell Glacier Falls with a new version using current processing techniques and tools. Enhanced dynamic range courtesy of DxO PureRAW 3.

An unusual waterfall from me. I have just returned from a family visit to the far North East of Scotland and knew about this waterfall plunging over the cliffs. Despite the blue skies, limited waterflow due to the total lack of recent rain and the flat calm seas I went out to investigate the location. I will return, probably in January, hoping for better conditions. Ken

Neat find - I like the perspective in the second image with the visible outflow in the ocean waters below the falls. This reminds me of some of the intermittent falls in the Columbia River Gorge with the low flow rates right now. Looking forward to see this with mid winter runoff.

Congrats on the 6 year anniversary Alan! Thanks so much for your consistency in keeping this going, that's not always easy to do.

I like the comparison between the two, and it reminds me that I should upgrade my PureRaw, I have the original version and got an email I can upgrade it to version 3 for $79, so I should do it. I don't use it, but I have been using the Enhanced mode in ACR now on some of my single shot Milky Way shots, and it does really improve the detail and reduce the noise. PureRaw would give me an alternative to that.

What a really cool waterfall Ken. I have not shot many waterfalls that fall into the ocean like this, but not for lack of trying, there just doesn't seem to be many of them. So there is an intrigue to them I think. I like these, but definitely look forward to your images if you can get this again in January.

Thanks Jim - the newest version of Enhance in LR/ACR is actually pretty good although I personally feel that DxO is doing a slightly better job given its underlying database of lenses and camera sensors. You should try DxO with a 30 day trial on your MW shots and see how it stacks up against what you are using now before plunking down your money.

Very nice Dan - the blooms steal the show (as they should) but also a good way to showcase the rapids as a backdrop. Love it.
