This is a timelapse from the deck at my Daughters house in Colorado 2 days ago. There was some a new storm coming in that started as rain and transitioned to snow during the evening and night.

Thanks Ben. Yeah, the clouds are fun to watch. What really amazes me with the clouds in this, is at points the clouds are going 3 different directions based on their altitude. And then also during one part of it, you can watch the lower clouds go one direction and then all of a sudden reverse their direction and head the opposite way. It's so fun to watch, well at least for me it was.

What you are watching is cloud movement in different directions at different altitudes. The winds change directions with altitude due to the Coriolis effect. This effect effected by the rotation of Earth causes the wind to be deflected to the right of its initial path in the northern hemisphere and to the left in the southern hemisphere. This rotational effect is at its maximum at the poles and zero at the equator. As you ascend in the atmosphere the effect of friction between the air and Earth is lessened and allows the air to deflected more and more to the right of its path in our hemisphere until it is moving in the opposite direction of its path at the surface.
